Raleigh Banana dumped in River Humber

On 18 OCT 03, I came across this 1980's Raleigh Banana replica road bike which had been dumped in the mud flats of the Humber estuary near the Humber Bridge.

A close up revealed that the rear wheel was buckled beyond repair and the front tyre was missing.

This picture put up on Usenet brought the unanimous conclusion that the front forks were buckled.

A closer look at the front forks, complete with seaweed near front hub.

After answering an ad in the local paper, this bike was picked up for 30 quid. Less than the cost of one new wheel.

Update: Since acquiring a new road bike it is unlikely that I will ride this anymore, so it was given away to a local man on 17 APR 04 who had one as a teenager.
